## Beschreibung

miTT PWA turns your WordPress website into a **Progressive Web App (PWA)**: a site
your visitors can install to the home screen and open like a native app – on Android,
iOS, Windows and macOS. It works offline using Service Workers, loads faster from
cache, and gives your mobile visitors an app-like experience without building a
separate native app.

No coding required – install the plugin, set up the manifest and service worker,
and your site is installable.

#### What the free version does

 * **Installable app** – visitors add your site to their home screen (Android, desktop,
   iOS via Safari)
 * **Offline ready** – the Service Worker caches your pages and static files
 * **Offline fallback page** – a custom page shown when there is no connection
 * **Cache-First strategy** that adapts to the network connection
 * **Static cache** for CSS, JavaScript and images
 * **Cache exceptions** – exclude URLs you don’t want cached
 * **Web App Manifest** – name, icons, theme colour and start URL
 * **Install prompt** and app screenshot

#### Go further with miTT PWA Fire Push (paid)

The free plugin makes your site installable. [miTT PWA Fire Push for WP](https://mittl-medien.de/product-wordpress-pwa)
adds the professional features:

 * **Push notifications** via Google Firebase Cloud Messaging – sent straight from
   your WordPress dashboard
 * **iOS install banner** and a custom install button
 * **App shortcuts** and protocol handler
 * **Background sync** for pages and images
 * **PWA install statistics**
 * 7-day free trial, 30-day money-back guarantee and e-mail support

#### Works with

Google Chrome, Firefox and Edge on Android, Windows, Linux and macOS; installable
via Safari on iOS.

## Installation

 1. Install the plugin directly from the WordPress plugin directory, or upload it to`/
    wp-content/plugins/`.
 2. Activate the plugin through the _Plugins_ menu in WordPress.
 3. Open the miTT PWA settings and configure the **Manifest**: App ID, App Name, App
Short Name, Start URL and PWA app icons.
 4. Set up the **Service Worker** and, optionally, the static cache to benefit from
    offline support.

Your WordPress site is now installable as a Progressive Web App.

## FAQ

### How do I turn my WordPress website into a Progressive Web App?

Install and activate miTT PWA, then configure the Web App Manifest and the Service
Worker in the plugin settings. Once the manifest is set up, your site is installable
to the home screen and works offline.

### What is the difference between the free version and miTT PWA Fire Push?

The free version makes your site an installable, offline-ready PWA. miTT PWA Fire
Push adds push notifications (via Firebase), an iOS install banner, a custom install
button, app shortcuts, background sync and install statistics.

### Does it work on iPhone and iOS?

Yes. Visitors can install your PWA to the home screen via Safari on iOS. iOS push
notifications require the paid Fire Push version and an installed PWA.

### Do I need to know how to code?

No. Setup is done in the plugin settings. Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS helps
for fine-tuning, and support is available if you need help.

### Does a PWA help with SEO and performance?

Progressive Web Apps load fast from the browser cache, which improves Core Web Vitals
and mobile usability and can support your SEO.

M.I.T.T. PWA makes it easy to turn your WordPress site into a Progressive Web App.
It's simple, quick to set up, and covers the basics like offline access and caching.
Great if you need a PWA fast without fussing over details. Perfect for a no-hassle
PWA boost!

## Änderungsprotokoll

#### 1.1.5

 * Adjusted for WordPress 7.1: the always-iframed editor and client-side media processing.
 * Fix: the Service Worker passes wp-admin, login, REST and admin-ajax requests
through untouched, so the dashboard and the iframed block editor are never served
   from cache.
 * Fix: the plugin’s own static files, including the offline page, are now really
added to the static cache. They were never cached before because the install
   step skipped them.
 * Fix: the offline page ships with real content instead of being empty.
 * Fix: the „use icons from the media library“ setting had no effect and always
fell back to the plugin folder icons.
 * Fix: app shortcuts, protocol handlers, the SVG icon and app screenshots had no
effect either. All four settings now reach the manifest, and incomplete entries
are skipped instead of producing an invalid one.
 * Fix: pages that only differ in their query string are no longer served for one
   another from the cache.
 * Fix: with no cache exception configured, the generated service worker contained
a syntax error and did not run at all.
 * Housekeeping: removed an unused editor sidebar that belongs to the paid Fire
   Push edition.
 * Housekeeping: admin scripts and styles only load on the plugin’s settings page.

#### 1.1.4

 * Refined plugin name wording („by miTT“). No functional changes.

#### 1.1.3

 * New: the Service Worker no longer serves cached pages to logged-in users or WooCommerce
carts, so private and cart pages are always fresh.
 * New: the Web App Manifest now ships 192px icons (regular and maskable) and falls
back to an existing icon if one is missing, which improves installability.
 * Fix: web fonts are cached correctly again in the Service Worker.
 * Fix: translations now load on the `init` hook, removing the WordPress 6.7+ „translation
   loaded too early“ notice.
 * Fix: the manifest and service worker are now regenerated on the first save and
only when the plugin’s own options change.
 * Housekeeping: declares Requires PHP 8.0 and Requires at least 6.3, and removes
its option and generated files on uninstall.

#### 1.1.2

 * Clearer plugin name and a rewritten readme so the plugin is easier to find in
the WordPress plugin directory. No functional changes.

#### 1.1.1

 * Fix: pull-to-refresh no longer blocks normal scrolling, inner scroll containers
   or pinch-zoom on mobile.
