• Hello everyone,

I’m hoping for some advice on a performance issue. My WordPress admin dashboard has become extremely slow, making it very difficult to manage the site. Every click and page load in the /wp-admin/ section takes a long time.

Interestingly, the public-facing website is loading just fine and at a normal speed.

Here is some important context about the installation:

    • The website is quite old, around 20 years.
    • The media library is very large, containing about 30,000 pictures.
    • The site is running the newest version of WordPress.

I’ve already tried clearing the page cache and my browser cache, but the backend slowness persists. I suspect it might be a plugin or a database query issue, especially with the huge number of images.

Here is the list of my currently active plugins:

    • Advanced Image Styles: Version 0.4.1
    • Antispam Bee: Version 2.11.7
    • Classic Editor: Version 1.6.7
    • Docxpresso: Version 2.6
    • Easy Post View Counter: Version 1.2.3
    • Easy Table of Contents: Version 2.0.74
    • Elementor: Version 3.29.1
    • Elementor Pro: Version 3.29.1
    • EWWW Image Optimizer: Version 8.1.4
    • ImageMagick Engine: Version 1.7.13
    • Insights from Google PageSpeed: Version 4.0.8
    • Ivory Search: Version 5.5.11
    • Media Library Categories: Version 2.0.2
    • Open Graph and Twitter Card Tags: Version 3.3.5
    • PDF Embedder: Version 4.9.2
    • Post Type Switcher: Version 3.3.1
    • Post Types Order: Version 2.3.7
    • Query Monitor: Version 3.17.2
    • Shortcodes by Angie Makes: Version 3.46
    • Shortcodes Ultimate: Version 7.4.0
    • Simple Photo Gallery: Version v1.8.1
    • Social Icons & Sharing Buttons by WPZOOM: Version 4.5.1
    • Table of Contents Plus: Version 2411.1
    • TablePress: Version 3.1.3
    • W3 Total Cache: Version 2.8.9
    • WP Statistics: Version 14.14
    • Yoast Duplicate Post: Version 4.5

Given the size of the media library, could any of these plugins be known to cause backend slowness? I’m particularly looking for advice on how to diagnose which plugin or process is the bottleneck. The Query Monitor plugin is active, but I’m not sure what to look for.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.
